June 30, 2020

Leading manufacturer of water pumps and pump systems, Wilo UK, has been awarded the AMP7 framework to supply Thames Water with wastewater pumps and associated equipment and engineering for eight years, including innovative systems with anti-clogging detection.

Wilo UK, part of the Wilo Group, is a leading premium provider of pumps and pump systems for building services, water management and industry, using smart solutions that bring together people, products and services.

Thames Water has appointed Wilo UK to its framework for the design,  installation, product supply, maintenance, repair and site services of wastewater pumps and associated products.

Products within the framework include;  sewage pumps, drainage pumps, package stations/pump stations, sludge return pumps, mixers and agitators and associated control equipment.

Wilo UK has supplied Thames Water with a considerable quantity of mixers and state of the art smart sewage pumps with adaptive technology, including the Wilo-Rexa SOLID-Q with Nexos Intelligence. The new, innovative product uses cloud based storage for operation and performance data, which has intelligent motors that can change their performance to suit application requirements. The system is incredibly energy efficient with intelligent control function to reduce losses. Operational reliability offers anti-clogging detection with automatic flush sequence, meaning pumps can un-block themselves, detect load changes, system changes and ensure they are always optimised.

Thames Water reports thousands of blocked pump stations every week, including issues from rags and wet wipes being flushed. As coarse solids can clog the sewage transport system this can result in breakdowns and increased service costs.

To combat this,  Wilo is also installing EMU Port Core solid separation systems which provide reliability and clog free transport, separating solids from the pumps medium, meaning they cannot be blocked. This technology is a huge benefit to Thames Water as it means engineers won’t have to go to stations when items have been put into the sewage system and caused blockages as Wilo pumps use water to flush the pipework and keep the sewage network flowing correctly.

Simon Oakes, Director of Water Management, Industry, Energy Solutions & OEM at Wilo UK, comments: “This framework is a great addition to Wilo UK’s portfolio. It was Wilo’s level of innovation, alongside our high accreditations that won us this contract and Thames Water can trust that our performance claims are verified.

“We look forward to providing a range of solutions to Thames Water over the next eight years and ensuring we keep the network flowing at its optimum.”
