Superior, a leading manufacturer of high integrity o-rings and seals, awarded 21 year old Ashleigh Phillips as its Apprentice of the Year, at an exclusive event on Wednesday March 8 at its headquarters in Ferndown.

The free event ‘Everything You Wanted To Know About Apprenticeships But Were Afraid To Ask’ took place at Superior to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (Monday March 6 – Friday March 10). It was attended by a variety of local Dorset employers, including Elite Marine Solutions and Whitefox Chartered Surveyors, showcasing how apprentices can benefit and add value to a business.

Flame Heating Spares is on track to more than double its turnover and workforce, with the launch of its latest branch in Newcastle upon Tyne.

 

The North East’s fastest growing Heating & Plumbing merchant is targeting a record £13m turnover by the end of its financial year, in June 2017, building on last year’s £6.4m revenues and continuous year-on-year growth since it was established in 2011.

It has now opened its seventh outlet in Newcastle, on Brough Park Way, near to the Newcastle Greyhound Stadium, after securing the 7,000 sq ft premises. As a result of the launch, three positions have been created.

0800 Repair Gas is now offering insulation services, in addition to heating and plumbing maintenance and repairs, which will provide customers with energy efficient solutions, including cavity, loft and external wall insulation services, to the energy and retail sectors, as well as to homeowners.

Supporting its team of Gas Safe registered heating engineers and boiler repair specialists; the Houghton le Spring-headquartered firm, which forms part of the Pacifica Group, has appointed an experienced Insulation Technical Manager to oversee the newly-formed division, with plans to create additional roles in the near future.

Pimlico Plumbers loses court battle over worker status

A Court of Appeal ruling could signify huge changes for businesses in the gig economy.
Garry Smith wished to reduce his working hours with Pimlico Plumbers following a heart attack but the firm refused and he claims he was dismissed.
The court of appeal has now agreed with an employment tribunal that he was entitled to basic workers’ rights despite being self-employed.

The landmark decision, which is sure to affect other sections of the gig economy such as Uber - which lost the right to designate its drivers as self-employed last year - has been welcomed by the workers' union, GMB.
