Develop Training Ltd

Develop Training Ltd (DTL) is the UK’s leading accredited provider of Compliance, Technical, and Safety training and has already made significant strides to address smart metering training needs in the energy sector.

The UK Government has challenged energy providers to install smart meters in the homes of all domestic customers and small business by the end of 2020. Although there are less than 4 years remaining The Times reported in December 2016 that in excess of 48 million meters are still to be installed.

Part of the problem for the energy supplies is their lack of trained engineers, but DTL is positioned and ready to play its part to help.

“We already have on hand lecturers and experts in the field of smart metering,” explains John Kerr, DTL’s Operations Director, “and have training bays and facilities available throughout our centres across the UK.”

DTL has recognised the UK’s need to bring on more talented engineers to support the smart metering initiative for some time and the firm has looked for expert guidance in the matter.

At the end of 2016, as part of one of their regular industry forums, DTL was delighted to welcome along Dennis Palmer, Head of Meter Programme Liaison at Smart Energy GB. Smart Energy GB is an independent, non-governmental, agency which is behind the Gaz and Leccy commercials currently being aired on TV. Dennis was able to explain the core aim of Smart Energy GB, which is to grow consumer awareness, confidence and understanding of the meter changes, and outline the significant challenges lying ahead.

Understanding smart metering and energy is vital. DTL not only engages with the experts but will publish one its regular industry-leading whitepapers on the topic later in February.
