As pressure mounts on contractors and developers to keep up with increased demand for housing while remaining cost-effective, there is more need than ever for timesaving construction methods, materials and solutions.

With space for plumbing systems often at a premium in new developments, modular components can reduce the need for time-consuming jointing work onsite, on top of the costs associated with large amounts of materials. These components can also afford contractors flexibility and adaptability in a multitude of different spaces and applications.

In response to greater demand for this type of quick-to-install modular plumbing component, polymer specialist REHAU has launched the new Smart Link plumbing manifold. Well-suited for uses in areas of limited space, such as within utility cupboards, its low cost and flexibility allows for quick, easy and effective plumbing system installation, saving contractors time and money when building new developments.

For example, when used in a point-to-point plumbing configuration, the Smart Link manifold allows for up to 70% fewer joints required compared with traditional branch plumbing. By connecting radiators, taps and outlets to the supply using piping from a central manifold, this point-to-point plumbing delivers fewer potential leaks and much faster installation time thanks to the reduction in joints required in the system.Fewer plumbing joints for contractors and developers

Furthermore, the Smart Link’s nine individual outlet isolation valves, made up of four hot and five cold water valves, simplify and centralise all of the isolation points. Because of this, it requires no installation of additional isolation valves in the system, meaning contractors can enjoy further reductions in time savings and material costs.

“We understand that contractors and building services providers need to keep installation time and costs to a minimum,” said Steve Richmond, Head of Technical and Marketing at REHAU UK. “With the Smart Link plumbing manifold, installation time is reduced thanks to fewer components and joints being required, which also translates into lower costs for contractors.

“In addition, the flexibility afforded by the Smart Link will allow developers to adapt the plumbing system to fit any space within their development. We hope that this new component will be an invaluable tool for contractors and developers looking for flexible plumbing solutions.”
