Fernox Launches Updated Express Range With Enhanced Formulation In Recyclable Canisters

May 23, 2019

Fernox has re-launched its Express range of chemicals, packing in even more active ingredients and increasing the dosage with new 400ml, recyclable canisters. Every product in the range is now able to protect a system up to 130 litres (or up to 16 radiators) and the equivalent of 250m2 of underfloor systems; reducing the risk of under-dosing significantly.

The Express range of Fernox chemical water treatment products is a quick and convenient way of treating a central heating system. Pressurised to 12 bar, Fernox Express can dose into a pressurised system without the need for drain down, saving time on-site especially when servicing a system and topping-up on inhibitor at annual maintenance time.

With a range of dosing adaptors and a fully controllable trigger mechanism, the product can be expelled from the can with no wastage or mess, which is an advantage over other methods of dosing. Importantly, the system can be treated in just 30 seconds via a TF1 Filter (through its drain valve), a radiator or filling loop.

The Express range – which includes Protector F1 Express, Boiler Noise Silencer F2 Express, Cleaner F3 Express, Leak Sealer F4 Express and Protector+ Filter Fluid Express –  uses Barrier Pressure Pack technology and compressed air to expel the product, so the whole range is non-flammable. The propellent (compressed air) is not mixed with the active product so there is no risk of Fernox Express Rangeair ingress into the system which could accelerate the corrosion process.

Each one is able to protect a system up to 130 litres (or up to 16 single radiators), and up to 250m2 for an underfloor heating system. This reduces the risk of installers inadvertently under-dosing a system, as over 97% of UK homes have system volumes of 130 litres or less.

As part of a major improvement programme, Fernox has also reformulated Cleaner F3 Express, Protector F1 Express and Protector+ Filter Fluid Express, with a much higher concentration of the main active ingredients for even higher performance. Protector F1 Express and Protector+ Filter Fluid Express also offer improved pH buffering, which provides increased protection for aluminium and steel components that are more vulnerable to corrosion damage, and which make up at least 92% of the internal surfaces of most heating systems.

Richard Crisp, Technical Manager - Chemistry at Fernox, explains: “If a central heating system is under-dosed, harmful sludge and debris can still build-up causing damage to components, such as the heat exchanger or circulator pump. We’ve therefore looked at ways to improve the technical capability of our chemicals, to make it as easy as possible for installers to achieve the best possible results, every time.

“We have also updated the packaging itself. With all the Express range canisters now recyclable steel – we’ve reduced the environmental impact of the range further as well and made it even easier to dispose of responsibly.”
The re-launched range has undergone rigorous testing, including certification for the inhibitors by NSF (BuildCert). Fernox’s own interal testing employs electrochemical accelerated corrosion tests, stability and compatibility tests to result in optimal performance that installers can rely on.
